tehma Telephone Extension Hold Music Activators (TEHMA): For true "hold button activation" of on-hold audio, each phone extension requires a "hold music activator". Two activators have been included in your package. If you require additional activators for other phones, contact our Sales department at 888.864.2402 to purchase additional activators.

Most phones without activators are able to engage the hold music feature by pressing ** (star key twice) on the telephone keypad and then (optionally) immediately pressing the HOLD button on the phone.

For a TEHMA to be used with a cordless phone, the user MUST USE A HEADSET. The TEHMA receives its power via the closed voltage circuit created by installing the TEHMA along with the headset. If you install the TEHMA, without the headset, the TEHMA will not work, and possibly the handset of the cordless phone will not function properly either.

If the TEHMA doesn't seem to be working, try flipping the "A" side and "B" side connections. Some phones like it the other way around.

If the user does not want to use a headset, or finds it cumbersome to have the TEHMA and headset installed on the cordless handset, the only available solution is for the user to manually trigger the on-hold message by pressing “* *” (star button, twice) on the cordless handset’s key pad, and then pressing the Hold button.

Model 5500 Recording: Open cover, Insert CD, Close cover

Once cover is closed, the unit will automatically begin recording the content of the CD into the unit’s digital memory. During the recording process, the contents of what is being recorded to memory will be heard through the speaker. Unit automatically switches over to "playback" mode when recording is complete.

If power to the unit is lost, the unit will resume playback as soon as power is reapplied. The unit retains its recorded content after power loss.

System Test:
  1. From any phone in the office with a "hold music activator" and a headset attached, dial the phone number of another phone (a cell phone works well).
  2. Place the call on-hold using the HOLD button on the telephone.
  3. Return to call and confirm that the on-hold audio was present on the line while on-hold.
  4. Using the volume control on the rear of the unit, adjust the volume to proper level. IMPORTANT: Excessive volume will cause the on-hold audio to shut off during playback.

Deactivating the On Hold music manually: If for any reason the hold music is activated inadvertently, it can be deactivated by pressing any key on your phone's dial pad.

DSL: The MOH function will not work on lines where DSL is present.

Call Waiting: The MOH function does not work with call waiting. Contact the phone service provider to deactivate the Call Waiting feature.

Mute Button: Pressing mute will block the TEHMA signal and trigger the on-hold audio. Press any key to deactivate the music for the duration of the call.

Speakerphone: Activating the speakerphone and hanging up the handset will eliminate the TEHMA signal and trigger the on-hold audio. Press any key to deactivate the music for the duration of the call.

When the user first takes the phone off the hook using the handset and then switches to speakerphone, the music will come on. This is normal operation. On the other hand, if you answer the phone or place a call using the speakerphone, the TEHMA tone is never recognized and if you put a call on hold from the speakerphone, the person on hold will not hear music. In this case, if you want to have music on hold, you need to hit ** hold. When you come back on line again, you need to hit any key to shut the music off.

How the Model 5500 works:
    Model 5500
  1. When the phone comes off hook, the Model 5500 senses this and connects that line to one of the channels in the 5500.
  2. It then listens to that line for presence of the 3750 Hz tone from the TEHMA.
  3. If it hears this, it activates circuitry that then continuously monitors the line and listens for the 3750 Hz tone.
  4. When the hold button is pressed, the handset along with the TEHMA in the handset line is disconnected from the circuit shutting off the 3750 Hz tone.
  5. As soon as the tone is shut off, the circuitry in the MOH 500i detects the 3750 Hz signal is not there and triggers a switch in the circuit to turn the music on.
  6. When the line comes off hold, the handset and TEHMA is reconnected and the 3750 Hz tone is heard again, shutting off the switch and in turn removes the music from the circuit.
